Setting Up Elation Integration

Last updated: September 2, 2026

Audience: Practice administrators connecting Elation EHR to Bioscope.

Prerequisites

  • Admin access to your Elation account

  • Access to Bioscope Settings (Account Settings tab)

  • Your Bioscope CSM's email for credential handoff

Step 1 — Generate API Credentials in Elation

  1. Log in to your Elation admin portal.

  2. Navigate to AdminThird Party AppsAPI User Management Console.

  3. Click Add a new API user.

  4. Fill in the required fields:

Field

What to enter

Nickname

A name to identify this connection (e.g., "Bioscope Integration")

Username

A valid email address — this should be your practice admin email or your Bioscope CSM's email

Sandbox Access

Check this if you want to test in sandbox first before going live

Brief description of use case

"Clinical data integration with Bioscope.ai for patient health analysis"

Product name

"Bioscope.ai"

  1. Click Create & view credentials (or Create & send credentials to email them directly).

  2. You will receive a Client ID and Client Secret. Save these securely — you will need them for the next step.

Important: The Client Secret is only shown once. Copy it immediately and store it securely.

Step 2 — Send Credentials to Your Bioscope CSM

Share the following with your Bioscope Customer Success Manager:

  • Client ID

  • Client Secret

  • Environment — production or sandbox

  • Base URL — typically https://app.elationemr.com/fhir for production or https://sandbox.fhir.elationemr.com/fhir for sandbox

Your CSM will configure the connection, or you can do it yourself in Step 3.

Step 3 — Configure the Connection in Bioscope

  1. In Bioscope, click your name in the bottom-left sidebar → Settings.

  2. Select the Account Settings tab.

  3. Scroll down to EHR Connections and click Add Connection.

  1. In the Add EHR Connection dialog, fill in:

Field

Value

Vendor

Select elation from the dropdown

Base URL

https://app.elationemr.com/fhir (production) or https://sandbox.fhir.elationemr.com/fhir (sandbox)

Client ID

Paste the Client ID from Step 1

Client Secret

Paste the Client Secret from Step 1

  1. Under Resources to Ingest, select the data types you want Bioscope to pull from Elation. All resource types are supported:

    • Patient, Immunization, Medication Request, Condition, Observation, Procedure, Document Reference, Diagnostic Report, Encounter, Allergy Intolerance, Care Plan

Tip: Click Select All to ingest everything available.

  2. Optionally configure:

    • MRN System / MRN Code — for patient matching

    • Scheduled Ingestion — set automatic ingestion frequency, or leave as "No scheduled ingestion" to ingest manually

  3. Click Create.

Your EHR connection will appear in the EHR Connections list on the Account Settings page.

Step 4 — Verify the Connection

After creating the connection, verify it appears in the EHR Connections section of Account Settings. You should see:

  • Vendor: elation

  • Base URL

  • Scope: system/*.read

  • Resources listed

  • Created date

Next Steps

Once the connection is active, proceed to Patient Matching & Data Ingestion to start syncing patient data.

Troubleshooting

Issue

Solution

Client Secret not working

Ensure you copied the full secret without extra spaces. If lost, generate a new API user in Elation.

Connection created but no data appears

Check that the patient exists in both Bioscope and Elation with matching demographics. See the ingestion guide.

"Unauthorized" error

Verify the Client ID and Client Secret are correct. Check that the API user is active in Elation.

Sandbox vs production mismatch

Make sure the Base URL matches your environment — sandbox and production use different endpoints.
