Deep Dive: Understanding the Synoptic View

Audience: Physicians using Bioscope who want to understand what each element of the Synoptic View means and how to interpret the data.
This guide breaks down the Synoptic View into its core components.
1. Health Dimensions & Status Indicators

Click the Health Dimensions dropdown in the tab bar to open the list of dimensions Bioscope tracks. Each dimension represents a distinct system or risk area.

Note: Men's Health and Women's Health display dynamically based on patient demographics — Women's Health adjusts based on menopausal status.
Dropdown groupings: WATCH, NORMAL and NO DATA
The dropdown sorts dimensions into status groups based on the AI's overall assessment for this patient. Which groups appear depends on the patient:
WATCH (red / yellow ▲ icon) — Dimensions with findings worth monitoring or evaluating further.
NORMAL (green / blue ● icon) — Dimensions assessed as within acceptable or ideal ranges.
NO DATA (gray ○ icon) — Dimensions Bioscope has no data to assess yet.
This means the dimensions most relevant to this patient surface at the top of the dropdown — you don't have to scan all 15 to find what matters.
NO DATA is not a normal result. It means the dimension has nothing to assess, usually because the relevant records or testing aren't in yet. A patient added moments ago may show every dimension in this group.
Status Indicators (RYGB)
Each dimension icon — whether in the dropdown or inside its detail view — uses a color-coded RYGB system reflecting the AI's assessment:

The WATCH group includes Red and Yellow status dimensions. The NORMAL group includes Green and Blue status dimensions. Dimensions with nothing to assess appear in NO DATA with a gray ○.
Medication Count
Some dimensions display a number with a pill icon (e.g., "1" or "2"), indicating how many of the patient's current medications are relevant to that health dimension.
2. Health Dimension Detail Views

Click any Health Dimension from the dropdown to open its detail view. The detail page surfaces clinical data specific to that area.
RYGB Gradient Indicator
At the top of every dimension detail, a horizontal gradient bar runs from Red (left) through Yellow and Green to Blue (right). A colored pill indicator shows where the patient falls on this spectrum based on the AI's overall assessment for that dimension. The pill color matches the status icon next to the dimension name in the dropdown.
This single visual tells you at a glance whether the patient is in concern (red), borderline (yellow), healthy (green), or optimal (blue) territory for that area.
Patient Self-Report, Medications, Supplements, Problems
A row of four cards sits below the gradient bar:
Patient Self-Report — what the patient has told you about this area, drawn from their survey answers. For example, sleep duration and exercise tolerance on Cardiovascular Health, or stress and life stressors on Mental Health. When nothing applicable has been reported, it reads "No context metrics available."
Medications — current medications relevant to this area
Supplements — relevant supplements the patient is taking
Problems — active problems tied to this dimension (this card was previously labelled Conditions)
An empty card does not mean the patient has none. Bioscope says so explicitly — "No curated medications – this does not mean the patient has none" — because it reports what has been curated from the record, not a clinical fact about the patient.
Polygenic Risk Scores (PRS) — Inline
Each dimension detail includes a PRS section showing the patient's polygenic risk scores for conditions relevant to that area. Each PRS row displays:

Polygenic risk percentile
Visual position on a low-to-high spectrum
Clinical context (e.g., "Higher PRS than 88% of people")
PRS rows are labeled by severity: Elevated (red flag, highest severity), Moderate (yellow), or Average (green). Rows may also carry a baseline-risk context line putting the percentile in perspective (for example, a note on the expected 10-year risk for someone of that age).
Percentiles and row counts shown in the app change as new data arrives. Read them off the patient's screen rather than from this guide.
Genetic Findings — Inline
A right-side panel lists genetic findings relevant to the dimension, with color-coded status icons:
Yellow triangle ▲ — elevated or watched
Green dot ● — benign or normal
Red diamond ◆ — significant pathogenic finding (e.g., TTN on Cardiovascular)
For example, SLC19A1 (a folate transport variant affecting Methotrexate response) may appear under Metabolic Health.
Dimension-specific charts and graph views
Below the PRS and Genetic Findings sections, each dimension surfaces its own clinical data visualizations:

Every chart has a graph-view dropdown in its top-right corner — switch between Bar and Radar views to compare patient values against optimal/reference ranges. Bar view emphasizes individual marker values; Radar view shows the whole-system shape at a glance, with optimal/reference/abnormal zones color-coded.
Note: A Trends view option may appear in the dropdown but is not currently available — use Bar or Radar.
Ask Bioscope (right side)
The Ask Bioscope panel stays visible on the right while you're inside a dimension detail, with the context scoped to that dimension. Quick actions like Explain, Suggest, and Concerns generate analyses specific to the area you're viewing.
3. The Synoptic Overview

The main Synoptic view (before drilling into any dimension) reads top to bottom, with the AI assistant in a right-hand rail:
Summary and suggestions (full-width, top)
The clinical story at a glance, generated from the whole record. It runs in this order:

Most entries carry a source icon. Click it and a Source Document window opens on the underlying report — the lab panel or note the finding was drawn from — so you can check any statement against its origin without leaving the page.
The panel updates automatically as new data arrives. If you want it rewritten on demand, use Regenerate synoptic summary in the page header.
Recent chat conversations and Body Visualization (bottom)
Below the summary panel: recent AI conversations about this patient on the left — pick up where an earlier thread left off without searching for it — and the patient's body silhouette with key vitals (Body Fat, BMI, Weight) on the right.

4. Genomics

Omics › Genomics displays results from Bioscope-coordinated whole genome sequencing. It only renders when the patient has undergone testing.
Click About this analysis at the top of the tab for sequencing methodology and definitions.
Genetic Findings
A single table grouped by category. Each category row carries stoplight severity counts and expands into a GENE / FINDING / VARIANTS table:

The patient's Blood Type and FUT2 Status appear as pills in the Genetic Findings header.
Pharmacogenomic Findings — variants affecting medication metabolism, which impacts prescribing decisions — is a separate card below, with Group by Drug / Gene, specialty filters, and Summarize Table.
Polygenic Risk Scores (PRS)
PRS aggregate the effects of many genetic variants to estimate genetic predisposition for specific conditions. Results are displayed as visual risk spectrum bars showing where the patient falls relative to the general population — with scores at or above the 90th percentile flagged as elevated risk.
The PRS section may show scores for conditions including cardiovascular disease, various cancers, metabolic conditions, and more.
Sequencing Metrics
A summary of the analysis coverage: total bases sequenced, total variants found, protein variants, significant variants assessed, and variants with clinical impact determined.
Note: Genomics is organised into two sections selected down the left — Genetic findings and Pharmacogenomics. Polygenic risk scores appear inline on the relevant Health Dimension detail rather than on this tab.
5. Microbiomics

Gut microbiome analysis from Bioscope-coordinated testing. Like Genomics, it renders only once the patient has had the associated testing.
The tab is organised into five sections, selected down the left. Survey answers, Understanding gut microbiome analysis and the collection date sit in the header.
Summary
A clinician-facing synthesis of the patient's microbiome findings and their clinical significance, generated from the assessment. It covers diversity, phylum composition, the keystone butyrate-producer layer, functional markers, and any pathobionts worth monitoring — each point traceable to its source.
Interpret it alongside the full results and the patient's clinical context.
Considerations
The synthesis turned into points you might act on, each traceable back to the underlying result.
Diversity
Two complementary measures:
Alpha diversity — the community within this sample: Shannon for overall diversity, Richness for species observed, and Dominance (Berger–Parker). Each is reported with a percentile.
Beta diversity — how this patient compares against reference populations, shown as a 2D/3D PCoA scatter with a sex legend.
Metabolic capacity
What the community can actually produce. Detected microbial genes are mapped to curated metabolic annotations to estimate functional potential:
Short-Chain Fatty Acid Production — butyrate, propionate, acetate and lactate
Vitamin Synthesis — total capacity plus individual vitamins (B1 thiamin, B2 flavin, B5 pantothenic acid, B6 pyridoxine, B7 biotin, B9 folate, B12 cobalamin)
Each is plotted on a ND / LOW / AVG / HIGH scale, so you're reading functional potential rather than raw abundance.
Composition
Which organisms are present, including the keystone species that carry most of the functional load — substrate transformers and cross-feeding organisms such as Akkermansia muciniphila.
